3rd International Public Health Nursing Conference Coming to Ireland

The 3rd International Public Health Nursing Conference (IPHNC) is coming to the coastal city of Galway, Ireland in 2013. Taking place in the National University of Galway (NUIG) from the 25th – 27th August, the conference will see the international public health nursing community gather together to discuss the theme ‘Making the Difference: The Public Health Nursing Contribution to Primary Health Care’.

The conference is being hosted by The Institute of Community Health Nursing (ICHN), the professional nursing body that advocates, facilitates, empowers and supports PHNs and RGNs working in the Public Health Nursing Service throughout the Republic of Ireland.

‘It’s a wonderful opportunity for the public health nursing community in Ireland’ said Anne Corridan, President of ICHN. ‘Connecting with our peers from around the world can only strengthen our voice in the wider health sector. I also believe that we have a lot to share with our visiting delegates. The global goal is always to raise standards; both for our practitioners and our patients.’

IPHNC 2013 is expected to see over 500 participants coming from both with Ireland and the rest of the world, giving a unique opportunity for delegates to connect with Public Health Nursing practitioners, representatives, decision makers and key organisations over the 3 day conference. The call for abstracts for those wishing to present at the conference will close on 14th December, 2012. A new student poster section has also recently been added to give students the opportunity to contribute to the conference.

Due to its excellent reputation within the field, some of the leading practitioners in public health nursing are already confirmed to speak at the conference, including Pauline Pearson, Professor of Nursing, Northumbria University, UK, Doctor Michele Issel, Clinical Professor, School of Public Health, University of Illinois, USA and Ms Annette Muransa Nkowane, Nursing and Midwifery Technical Officer, WHO Geneva, amongst others.

‘We can’t wait to welcome all our colleagues from around the world’ continued Anne Corridan ‘Galway is one of the most beautiful locations in Ireland – a true treasure of the west – and we plan to put on a fantastic social programme to make sure they get the full Irish experience.’ Online registration will open on Monday, 7th January, 2013, with early bird registration fees in place for a limited time.
